Title : Southeast Houston, Texas, U.S.A. May 1991
Caption :
Featured in this photograph are the southeastern section of metropolitan Houston; the dark effluent of the San Jacinto River as it flows into the northwestern corner of Galveston Bay; and Interstate Highway 45 (Gulf Freeway) that connects the central business district of Houston with several smaller communities to the southeast toward the Gulf of Mexico. Discernible are Texas City, which appears as a large, highly reflective area (bottom left) with oil refineries and chemical plants; roads and railroad rights-of-way; the highly reflective Houston Ship Channel corridor with a concentration of petrochemical industries that extends eastward from downtown Houston; and the runways of George Bush Intercontinental Airport (upper right).
